Rectangular Raised Koi Pond
Design & Construction
The brief for this project was to create a clean, contemporary raised koi pond that would combine strong visual impact with high-performance water management. Designed and delivered by TMW Pond Services, the result is a 15,000-litre rectangular pond that integrates modern design with advanced filtration and fully automated control systems.
From the outset, the focus was on building a structure that would not only enhance the surrounding garden but also provide a stable, healthy environment for koi. The raised design gives the pond a strong architectural presence, improving visibility of the fish while also allowing key systems to be seamlessly integrated within the structure.
Construction began with the formation of the rectangular shell, engineered for strength and long-term durability. The external finish was carefully considered to complement the garden setting, with the pond clad in tongue and groove timber matchboard to create a warm, natural aesthetic. This was paired with Brazilian slate copings, providing a sharp, premium finish to the top of the structure while also offering durability and weather resistance.
A key visual feature of the build is the infinity-style viewing window, which creates a seamless connection between the water and the surrounding space. This allows uninterrupted views into the pond, enhancing the overall experience and bringing the movement of the koi into focus.
Filtration & Water Management
With the structure in place, attention turned to the installation of the pond’s filtration and circulation systems. At the heart of the setup is a full Oase pump-fed drum filter system, designed to deliver high-performance mechanical and biological filtration. This ensures that water quality remains consistently high, even with the demands of koi stocking.
To complement the filtration, a Oase FiltoClear 60,000 unit was integrated alongside a built-in wall skimmer. The skimmer plays a key role in maintaining a clean surface by removing floating debris, while also housing an automated top-up system that regulates water levels and reduces the need for manual intervention.
Lighting, Control & Completion
Lighting and control were central to the overall design. An RGB lighting system was installed to transform the pond’s appearance from day to night, allowing for colour variation and enhanced visual impact in the evening. All systems—including pumps, filtration, lighting, and water levels—are managed through an FM Master control unit, providing a single, user-friendly interface for complete system management.
Completed as a fully integrated design and build project, the 15,000-litre pond delivers both form and function. The finished installation offers a low-maintenance, high-clarity aquatic environment for koi, while also acting as a striking focal point within the garden.
This project highlights TMW Pond Services’ ability to combine precise construction, high-quality finishes, advanced filtration technology, and intelligent automation to create ponds that are not only visually impressive but built for long-term performance and ease of use.
